Importance of Effective Team Building

 

Team Building is an overall process where under the team members are encouraged to make a strong bond for a common goal (Khwaja, 2021). In Human Resource Management, it is pivotal to conduct such activities and interactions where under building of team within members in persuaded. Implementation of right strategies within the team members is important in order to achieve defined set of objectives and goals (Zlenko and Isaikina, 2020). Through team building initiatives, contribution in streamlining in HR management also takes place. It is also a good mechanism for attaining greater productivity within the organization.  According to (Petrov, 2019), better the team building, better will be employee morale.

When people work together to solve problems, they get better results. People who have the backing of a team are more inclined to take calculated risks that lead to creativity. Working in a group fosters personal development, improves job satisfaction, and reduces stress.

Increased communication, planning skills, staff engagement, and employee participation are all advantages of team building.

For instance, if weekly activities are conducted within the organization for the purpose of building bond within the team members, it can help the members to know each other in an effective and efficient manner (Sharma, 2021).

As per Bruce Tuckman theory of Team Development, there are certain stages through which the teams go through all these stages assist in helping the team members to perform better step by step. As per him, following are the stages in this context and required for overall team building and development:

  •           Forming
  •           Storming
  •           Norming
  •           Performing

As per him, this is basically a path which aims at higher performance and better productivity in team.

In one of the articles written by Nancy Hatch Woodward dated September 1, 2006, the importance of performing team building exercises have been duly explained. According to her, team building exercises are of much importance when the team is big and there is diversity in culture within the same team. Because of such activities and interactions, it can become easier for the members to know about each other and create an atmosphere of belongingness and friendliness. Thus, organization must develop a proper strategy to keep on introducing various team building activities at regular intervals.
