Motivation in Human Resource Management

Motivation in Human Resource Management

One of the most pivotal concepts in Human Resource Management is motivation. There is a direct and immediate link between performance and motivation. Motivation is basically defined as a mechanism through which a desire is ignited within the individuals to perform their job in a responsible manner (Sleiman and Sayah, 2018). If there is no motivation among the human resources of the organization, the result is often underperformance.

In organizations, the Human Resources department plays a critical function. Motivation can be boosted by their activities, improving the quality of life-work balance for their personnel. Similarly, the organizational atmosphere can improve and have a direct effect on productivity.

Motivation is directly tied to individual performance improvement, according to the HR manager. This is how you'll be able to focus on this component in a strategic method to help the organization achieve its goals.

Figure 1: Employee Motivation

Motivation is a driving factor in the construction industry as productivity enhancement is possible through the same. Maslow’s need hierarchy theory emphasizes that individuals within the organization are motivated in accordance to the hierarchy of needs, which has its starting from the basic needs and thereafter the needs reach to the level of recognition and reward and after attainment of these needs, the need of actualization of one’s vision comes into the picture (Kharchenko, 2021).

Thus, the hierarchy of needs must be duly followed to enable the employees to reach the highest level of need. Construction Industry is such an Industry where the quantum of work involves a lot of stress for workers on a daily basis. Thus, in such a state motivation is what derives the fulfilment of activities in a right direction. For a project’s success, productivity is pivotal and if a project manager expects such productivity, they must also indulge in regular motivational activities for employees (Kiseleva, 2018).

Some of the motivational activities which can be performed by the Project Managers in the construction site includes:

  •         Adequate engagement with the team members
  •         Extending a positive and comfortable environment for working
  •         Providing rewards regularly
  •        Treating them with utmost respect and empathy
  •         Making a space for growth

Motivation can be monetary as well as non-monetary. It is also vital to determine that employees are seeking motivation in which direction. Once, it is determined then it becomes easier to motivate the employees which then assist in attaining overall productivity of the workers.

  12. When all of the required needs are met, the employee will be motivated. Staff wants to be appreciated and to work in a pleasant environment with a manageable workload. Staff becomes demotivated if management does not have a good understanding of their needs. Good job.
