Management of Cultural Diversity at the Workplace
Management of Cultural Diversity at the Workplace
Cultural
Diversity has become one of the prominent aspects of every organization and it
is a very subjective as well as sensitive topic indeed. Each culture has its
own set of values, traditions, and morale which must be duly respected in order to
attain cultural competence in an organization. The role of managers here is of
major importance as if he knows how to manage things properly in terms of
respecting cultures, then there would be no issue as such. In this regard, it
must be noted that interaction plays a very intriguing role as regular
interaction can result in the enhancement of knowledge in diverse cultures (Barbara,
2015).

In
the video, there are various essentials steps stated that can assist in proper and
adequate management of Cultural Diversity within the organization that the
managers must follow for the purpose of attaining cultural competence. Some
examples are:
- By organizing various team-building activities where under the mix of different cultural people is there. It could also include ensuring that all the team members of diverse cultures have their lunch together where they could get to know each other in an effective and efficient manner.
- Managers must ensure that he or she is having regular interactive sessions with all the members in order to understand their culture better and also to give them an opportunity of stating their opinions and views in a clear and intact manner (Sharma, 2016).
- Social identity and social categorization theories of intergroup relations must be taken into consideration in order to gain a better social picture of the team members and how they perceive their work. With reference to this, it must be ensured that the awareness of organizational culture is imparted to all the team members (Roberts, Cha, and Kim, 2014).
For managers and diverse teams in organizations, there are four basic ways for coping with cultural problems. Adaptation, structural intervention, management intervention, and exit are among them. Organizations must ensure that they communicate successfully with employees in order to manage a diverse workforce. Policies, procedures, safety standards, and other vital information should be written in a way that overcomes linguistic and cultural obstacles, such as by translating texts and using visuals and symbols when appropriate.
Thus, management of workplace diversity involves a series of steps that must be taken at the right time in order to ensure stability within the organization.
