Evaluation in Human Resource Management
Performance evaluation is the process by
which a manager or consultant examines and evaluates an employee's work
behavior by comparing it to pre-determined standards, documents the results of
the comparison, and uses the information to give employees feedback on where
and why improvements are needed.
Performance appraisal serves two main
purposes: evaluative and developmental. The evaluative goal is to let people
know where they stand in terms of their performance. The information gathered
about performance is regularly utilized to reward good work and punish bad
work.
Employees
are the most vital asset of every organization, and the role of performance
evaluation is equally pivotal for the organization’s as well as employee’s
growth. Performance Evaluation is basically a complete procedure where under
the measurement of employee’s work and performance is evaluated. Different evaluation
techniques are adopted to measure the performance of employees to comprehend
their overall value addition (Cheng and Li, 2006).
In
Human Resource Management, performance evaluation also assists in defining the
scope of improvement which is essential for them. In Construction Industry, performance
evaluation is majorly done on the basis of completion of projects on time and
within budget (Puigjaner, 2000). Thus, if the employees have performed well by
completing the task assigned to him on time and as per the defined framework.
Moreover, employee performance can also be sustained through proper and
continuous evaluation.

1: How to conduct Annual Reviews at your company
In
one of the Blogs posted by Brett Long, he has defined various mechanisms
through which annual reviews of the Construction employees can be done (Koziolek,
2010). One of the most important aspects discussed by him is the usage of
balanced scorecard as it can help to make sure that nothing important is missed
out in the overall evaluation process.
The
major reasons for conducting the performance evaluation are:
- For the purpose of giving recognition to the employees who have performance their duties to the best of ability.
- In order to define the scope of improvement for the employees who do better in terms of their capability and zeal.
- For the purpose of motivating the workforce as it is only through proper performance evaluation and feedback that employees can determine their level within the organization (ZHAO and TANG, 2013).
- Organizations within the Construction Industry can make use of annual review forms consisting of aspects such as completion of project, customer satisfaction, construction safety etc.
