Relevance of Work-Life Balance

One of the major components of a healthy work environment is an appropriate presence of work-life balance. Work-life balance basically refers to the optimum combination of work and other aspects of an individual’s life. The main and the most important benefit of maintenance of work-life balance is the reduction of stress levels among employees as it has been observed that chronic stress among youngsters in today’s era is caused by excessive work burden. Chronic stress further leads to other problems as well such as hypertension, digestive troubles, chronic aches and pains, and heart problems (Beauregard, 2014). Thus, in order to achieve a healthy and productive workforce, it is imperative to impart the employees with an appropriate work-life balance without letting them work for excessive hours.

There are several reasons for which the work-life balance is important and some of such reasons can be listed as below

  • Imparting work-life balance promotes well being in physical as well as mental health of the employees and they are able to concentrate a lot better in their work as a result.
  • A balanced work lifestyle assists in the promotion of better involvement of employees in their work and as a result, they are able to deliver effective results as required. The engagement level of employees in their work automatically increases when they perform their work by maintaining the other aspects of their life as well.
  • The attrition level of employees within the organization also decreases when the organization provides a healthy work environment by ensuring that employees only work within the allotted work hours. As the employees become satisfied, it automatically results in a less attrition rate (Isaacs, 2016).

Work is an important element of everyone's life. Our revenues ensure that the lights are kept on, food is served, and the rainy-day fund is replenished. In today's unpredictable and fast-paced corporate world, achieving work-life balance is no easy undertaking. Maintaining a healthy work-life balance is vital not only for your employees' health and relationships, but also for their productivity and, ultimately, their performance. Simply put, if your employees don't see work as a chore, they'll work harder, make fewer mistakes, and be more likely to become brand ambassadors.

Thus, work-life balance must be promoted within all levels in the organization and it must be ensured that employees are provided with a good working environment in order to enhance effectiveness and efficiency (Warren, 2021).
