Role of Business Ethics in Human Resource Management
Role of Business Ethics in Human Resource
Ethics are basically defined as the principles on the basis
of which the behavior of employees in an organization is governed (Calder,
2012). It is important that ethical practices are followed upon in organization
in order to ensure that there is no scope of mistreatment within the workplace.
Workplace ethics are related to the code of conduct as any wrong behavior in
the workplace depicts absence of good ethics.
In this video, the role of good ethics has been defined and how good work ethics can be instilled within the employees. Moreover, work ethic, personal character and ethical behavior at work are completely co-related with each other as the character of a person defines what is right and what is wrong for him.
The major unethical practices which are experienced in the
organization within any Industry include:
- Discrimination of employees in terms of their culture, gender, religion etc.
- Variation in the pay in terms of non-compliance with respect to equal pay structure in salaries or wages.
- Harassment of employees by making them work overtime without paying extra, giving no holidays or doing unnecessary pay cuts or sexual harassment etc .(Frega, 2020)
Thus, it is pivotal to instill a good ethical leadership in
the Human Resource team who can ensure that ethical practices are followed in every
department within the organization (Luetge, 2005).

As per (Aasland, 2004) the major traits of ethical leadership are as follows:
- Ensuring that there is an atmosphere of respect and integrity within the organization.
- Creating awareness of values, principles.
- Conducting team building and team effectiveness activities.
- Ensuring that there is no harassment within the workplace at any level.
Managerial ethical behavior aids in determining what is right and what is wrong. Ethical behavior and norms of conduct aid in punishing the wrongdoer and praising the righteous. The stated success cannot be accomplished without the implementation of ethics for the management of human resources in the firm.
For efficient personnel planning and growth, HR ethics revolves
upon upholding moral codes and ethical ideals at all levels of a business.
Integrating ethical standards into Human Resource Management allows a company
to preserve and grow confidence.
Ethics are also the reflection of individual’s own personal
identity and values, which thereby governs his behavior.
